Biography
Tianchen Qian is an Assistant Professor of Statistics at UC Irvine. His research develops statistical methods for optimizing mobile health interventions, with a focus on causal inference and micro-randomized trials. He has contributed to defining and estimating causal excursion effects, improving design and analysis strategies for MRTs, and addressing challenges such as effect heterogeneity and missing data. His work bridges statistical innovation and practical application in digital behavior-change studies, including physical activity, smoking cessation, and alcohol reduction. Tianchen was a postdoc with Susan Murphy at Harvard and earned his PhD in Biostatistics from Johns Hopkins University.
